About Us

My name is John Leightley and I am the founder of Navigate Northumberland. I am a member of The North of Tyne Mountain Rescue, the Mountain Training Association and Supporter of the British Mountaineering Council. All our guides are first aid qualified, which is regularly kept up to date and are Enhanced CRB checked.

With us you will not just wander the hills walking aimlessly, you will have an experience that will make you want to come back. On some walks we may hear the Red Grouse and the Curlew or see the Buzzards above our heads. We will see Wildflowers and discover the historic landscape by seeing the mysterious cup and ring marked rocks and the Iron Age Hill Forts.

All our Guides whether it is for a Guided Walk or a Navigation Course have a passion and enthusiasm for the area that can’t be beaten, whether it is for the coast or the National Park.

At Navigate Northumberland your guide will have been wandering the Northumberland Hills for years and for this reason you will have all the local knowledge you need.

Because our number one priority is you, our guides will tailor the day when possible to what you want to get out of it, whether it be wildlife, photography, rock formations or history.

When you come with Navigate Northumberland we have five rules that must be followed at all times.

1. Be safe

2. Follow the country code

3. Look after each other

4. Keep your eyes open so you don’t miss a thing

And the most important rule of all

5. Enjoy yourself

What do we specialise in?

At Navigate Northumberland specialise in looking after our customers, making sure that you are safe and well looked after in the countryside is one of two main priorities. Our second main priority is that as well as been safe, you enjoy yourself and your experience with us.

Our experience of walking in the Northumberland Hills along with our experience in the Mountain Rescue makes us perfect to look after you and to give you the experience you are looking for.

After a walk with us you will have a better understanding of the history of our area, the wildlife and the landscape, all our Guides are relaxed and friendly and there for you.

If you have any questions you can contact us day or night as we work twenty four hours a day to give you the best possible service and experience in the area.

By 2014 we hope to be able to start offering Rock Climbing Courses as well as leading walks. The aim of Navigate Northumberland is to teach people the skills needed to safely enjoy the hills and mountains that are all around us.

We look forward to guiding you around Northumberland.
